When thematic concern becomes an important issue for

an artist, it manifests itself in the form of an interlinked

series of images. Over the period my works have gone

through many changes from the point of view of

techniques and thematic planes.

My work has traveled taking different routes from many

different points. I consciously sought to define myself as

an artist with a constructive role to play in society and my

works have been my social milieu.

The artists role as an active commentator has inspired me

to create works that look closely at structures of society

and individual.

My work of 70s and early 80s were mainly landscapes.

My stay in Santiniketan brought about a radical change in

my perception. Looking at the elements of nature around

me, and my new born cognisance saw the previously

considered dead and inanimate objects throbbing with life

and having an individuality of their own.

Back in Delhi – 1985, life became the central point in my work.

The change from the isolated rural quietetude of Santiniketan to

the urban chaos of Delhi had a direct impact on my work.

Newspaper headlines of daily atrocities, mayhem and killings lead me to pour out my feelings

through a number of prints in series. I wanted society to come face to face with my experiences

and react.

Earlier works from the series of “TODAY” and “TEMPTATIONS” saw the analytical approach

towards the human craving for power. This journey traveled for some years – along with a broader

perspective and outlook, which slowly aquired a more universal outlook. I directed my quest

towards a better comprehension of human existence through appropriate visual metaphors in the

series of works named “PURUSHA AND PRAKRITI”

My earlier works specially affirms life, while also addressing the Socio–Political negation of life.

“FROM LANDSCAPE TO FIGURATIVE” The traces of my images and thoughts are drawn from my

regular personal feelings.

My recent works are concentrated on exploring themes which are in a way a reflection of my

personal life and what goes around me. The revolving images in my recent works are

“PERFORMERS”, “REFLECTIONS”, “ENTWINED” AND “HIS/HER WORLD”, let that be political,

religious, social or romantic. It is to try to explore universal feelings and relations between

“MAN TO MAN”.

In these works, line plays a very important role as colours also, since it moves around the whole

space and is like a note of music moving within the whole space.

Expressively dividing space and dramatically interlocking limbs, crawling movements of white sharp

line. Like snake, and moon are at times, a kind of symbolic representations in my work. The moon

mutely lighting up the environment is a ray of hope, in the whole situation, society, civilization.

I leave it to my viewers to place my exhibited works within the framework of their visual

experiences and visual world.
